5 of the Weirdest Rolex Watches Ever Made

by Kairo March 13, 2023 0 Comment 9 min read

You more or less know the look of a Rolex watch. Some of the brand’s signature design elements—from Mercedes hands to fluted bezels—are so recognizable and ubiquitous that they seem nearly set in stone, and even the tiniest tweaks on new models can make Rolex fans’ heads explode. But it hasn’t always been this way.

That’s why it’s interesting to discover examples of Rolex watches that contradict the conservative and familiar image — or, Rolex watches that don’t “look like” Rolex watches. If you think you know Rolex, here are five watches that very well might blow your mind.

Table of Contents

  • 1.Rolex King Midas
  • 2.Rolex Daytona 116598 SACO
  • 3.Domino’s Rolex
  • 4.Rolex Zerograph
  • 5.Rolex Daytona 116595 RBOW-0001
  • Conclusion

1.Rolex King Midas

First up, we have the Rolex King Midas. This watch was made in the 1960s and has a unique shape that’s reminiscent of ancient Greek mythology. The case and bracelet are both made of 18k yellow gold, making it a statement piece.

Now, I have to say, this watch is not for everyone. The shape is a bit odd and the bracelet can be uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time. But if you’re looking for a truly unique vintage Rolex, the King Midas is definitely worth considering.

2.Rolex Daytona 116598 SACO

Next up, we have the Rolex Daytona 116598 SACO. This watch is part of the Rainbow Daytona collection and features a rainbow-colored bezel with 36 baguette-cut sapphires. The case and bracelet are both made of 18k yellow gold, making it quite the statement piece.

Now, I have to admit, this watch is definitely not for the faint of heart. The rainbow bezel is a bit over-the-top for some people’s taste, and the price tag is definitely up there. But if you’re looking for a Rolex that’s sure to turn heads, the Daytona 116598 SACO is definitely one to consider.

3.Domino’s Rolex

Moving on, we have the Domino’s Rolex. Yes, you heard that right. This watch was actually commissioned by Domino’s Pizza in the 1980s to commemorate their 25th anniversary. The watch features a Domino’s Pizza logo on the dial and was only given to a select few employees.

Now, this watch is definitely a conversation starter. The Domino’s logo on the dial is certainly unique, and the fact that it was commissioned by a pizza chain is just plain bizarre. But if you’re a collector of strange and unusual watches, the Domino’s Rolex is definitely worth tracking down.

4.Rolex Zerograph

Up next, we have the Rolex Zerograph. This watch was produced in the 1930s and features a unique dial design with two rotating discs that display the hours and minutes. The case is made of stainless steel, and the watch is powered by a manual-winding movement.

Now, this watch is definitely a throwback to a different era. The rotating discs on the dial are definitely unique, and the stainless steel case gives it a more understated look. But if you’re looking for a vintage Rolex with a twist, the Zerograph is definitely one to consider.

5.Rolex Daytona 116595 RBOW-0001

And finally, we have the Rolex Daytona 116595 RBOW-0001. This watch is part of the Rainbow Daytona collection and features a rainbow-colored bezel with 36 baguette-cut sapphires. The case is made of 18k white gold, and the watch is powered by a self-winding movement.

Now, you may be thinking, “Wait a minute, we already saw a Rainbow Daytona earlier!” But this one is different. While the 116598 SACO had a yellow gold case and bracelet, this one has a white gold case and black rubber strap. And not only is the bezel rainbow-colored, but the dial is as well, with each hour marker featuring a different color of baguette-cut sapphires.

Now, this watch is definitely not for the faint of heart. It’s bold, it’s colorful, and it’s certainly not subtle. But if you’re looking for a Rolex that’s going to make a statement, the Daytona 116595 RBOW-0001 is definitely one to consider.

Conclusion

So there you have it, guys, five of the weirdest Rolex watches ever made. Some of these watches may not be for everyone, but they all have their own unique charm.
